“My two grand daughters, aged 9 and 12, my son and I went along to a Creative Detectives session during the summer holidays. We met in a car park in the heart of the Forest of Dean and I was pleased to see a car with a blackboard, and Rachel, telling us we were in the right place! Rachel is so organised! There were two families, a huge variety of ages, but we were all kept very busy creating interesting things. Despite being out in the wilds Rachel had all we needed in the boot of her car – bags to collect ‘treasures’, materials to make stained glass windows and a supply of plaster of paris which we used cast forest items.
We all had a fabulous morning. It was well planned and gave all ages the chance to make things to be proud of. Rachel explained very clearly what we were going to do and was very helpful and encouraging to everyone in the group. We would certainly go again.”
“Huge thanks to Rachel for today’s Creative Detectives morning on the Sculpture Trail in the Forest of Dean. The whole family got involved and we worked together to following clues and the fun challenges that Rachel had created. This is exactly the sort of thing that you imagine you will do when you consider having children, but in reality, life always seems to get in the way, someone is always working…The kids couldn’t have been happier and we all learnt facts about the trail and artists who created it. Rachel has a wonderful way with the children, introducing them all to each other subtly, making sure that no one is left out, talking to them like little ‘creatives’, not children that must follow her instructions. I would highly recommended this for any family seeking a bit of quality time away from phones and other distractions. It’s just you and the children laughing and having fun – like proper families on the Centre Parcs adverts.”
“My children loved your creative detectives session – what can I say other than an extremely well organized morning of creative sensory experiences in a natural environment. Fun packed with a variety of activities, which my children really enjoyed carrying out. They remember every time we go to Beechenhurst- the playdough sculpting, charcoal sketching and making leaf and moss crowns!”
“I would just like to leave some feedback on a most enjoyable couple of hours in the Forest of Dean. We are from Portsmouth and was searching on the internet for some things to do and came across “Creative Detectives”, I read a bit about it and thought “I just give it a go” nothing to lose it is only a couple of hours. WOW I went with my three children 15,13 and 10 and was really pleased that we went. Rachel informed our group what was going to happen in a clear and up beat manner and in the right language to keep my three interested as well as the other children in the group (younger ones). The session involved a walk in the woods and spotting different colours and designs within the forest (as well as wild boar markings). The children were routing around in the woods gathering bits of twig and flora to design a sculpture getting dirty but with smiles on their faces. The knowledge and patience of Rachel with us (us asking lots of questions) in the Forest was really interesting that spanned generations (my Father-in-law was also walking with us). My son summed up the day with a really lovely comment about how much he had enjoyed the session and it made him aware of his surroundings and the colours of the Forest. I would state that on our last day in the Forest of Dean this was a really great way in which to end a really enjoyable week. Well done to Rachel, 6 people (2 dogs) all happy and satisfied with a good few hours in the Forest nothing was too much trouble and we got to bring home a selection of crafts which we will treasure.”
